A television and film director/producer, interviewer, teacher, writer,
photographer, music lover, gardener, reader, cook, cat lover, ‘nosey parker’,
people and life-lover.......

My career since 1965 has concentrated on communicating in many different ways. My teaching gave me a language and an ability to ‘read’ people, the Educational Television Centre gave me an excellent training in television, which my years with Michael Barratt (of ‘Nationwide’ fame, for those who might remember!) provided me with the wisdom of a BBC journalist. After producing and directing two award winners, ‘Charles & Diana’ and ‘Max, the story of a diabetic’, it was time to move on.

Independent Producers Limited and Healthy Relations were my chance to develop my own programme ideas: children's entertainment, corporate, promotional, training, sales, celebratory, in a number of different styles – documentary, drama, ‘fly on the wall’, a ‘day in the life of …’ and non–verbal - and a variety of publications for clients as diverse as medical and insurance companies as well as marketing plans, concepts and public relations strategies. I was involved in all the disciplines: writing, producing, directing, interviewing and conceptualising and came up with another award winner for Coutts.

In addition, the companies specialised in live television and were pioneers of television events for the large screen. This led to the production of all the ‘Big Screen’ live transmissions from the Royal Opera House (prior to the refurbishment) to the Covent Garden Piazza, which I produced and directed, and, as part of the interval entertainment, interviewed singers, producers and conductors from each production.

My decision to move to GMN, Global Music Network, after years of ‘being my own boss’ was because I wanted to unite my great love of music with my professional skills (up to this moment only achieved once a year working with the Royal Opera) and I wished to conquer the fascinating new means of communication, the Internet. A founding member of this company, I worked with the design team on conceptualising the look of GMN, found an editorial style, planned the complicated database and web site structure with the technical team, produced/directed video interviews with artists and background interest video sequences and produced the first live opera on the web in June 1999 from the Kirov Opera.

It was an exciting time and all good things come to an end: GMN folded in 2001. However, I did not want to waste the skills that I had acquired and my understanding of ‘new media’ made me uniquely well qualified to design and produce web sites.
